Sea Breeze, NY-June 21, 2010

                                                            Danish craftsmanship and beauty.

My husband and I took a long drive today in and around Sea Breeze. It was a great day for a drive in one of my favorite places, Sea Breeze. The Parkside Whispering Pine miniature golf was packed with families having a great time on this Sunday afternoon, the bars and restaurants that are open seem to be doing well, the outside seating appeared full. Sea Breeze, even with this pandemic is thriving, maybe not as it should but that will come. Soon, and once again it will be that great summer spot, a place for a hot summer day, a walk in the park, some fun at the amusement park. It will be great again.

What bothers me is the way that Sea Breeze is treated. Yes, the way it is treated. It could be so much more than it is. It is a beautiful spot and it is so under appreciated. It is sad. Where is the fanfare? Where are the flowers and the banners? Where are the boutiques and cute little speciality shops that make little lakeside communities what they are? Sea Breeze could be like the village of Old Forge with shops and people and happiness. Where is the love? Why does Sea Breeze look so tired? I am so grateful for the things that it does have, Nick's Sea Breeze Inn, Union Tavern, Parkside Diner, etc. It has great things but it could be greater, much greater.

So many of the cottages near Marge's have been renovated and that is great but there are so many more that need the same. Roads like Lake Bluff should be glorious but look so sad. Homes are broken down and in need of so much repair, some are beyond repair. How is it when you have a home in such a perfect spot over looking our beautiful lake that it is crumbling? That is the kind of sad that I am talking about.

Isn't about time for it to change? For your voices to be heard? Isn't it time for Sea Breeze to be all that it can be? Why do we settle for mediocre? Don't you want a nice place for people to visit? A place to feel proud of? We have one of the oldest amusement parks in the country and that should be celebrated. Sea Breeze should reflect the history that the park has given Rochester but sadly it doesn't. That is sad. As taxpayers in that community you should be appalled. As residents of this great town we should all expect more, not less. Take the 3 hour drive to Old Forge or even a 15 minute drive through Pittsford and tell me what you see. It won't be run down homes that are neglected. I am a true believer that if a few people fix up their homes many will follow. Give people something beautiful and they will take pride in their community, give them nothing and they won't.

I am interested in conversation about this topic. You can reply on here or right on this FB page. Let's talk about it. All opinions and voices count. Change does not come with silence.

Thank you!
