Day 21-

Happy Sunday Everyone!. I hope you find a nice way to enjoy the day. Maybe take a long drive or cook a nice meal or just relax watching or reading something that makes you happy. Maybe even play with your furry friend.

Today I want to talk about our little girl Trixie and how she came about. What made us decide to get a Collie at this time in our lives. These puppy commitments are probably better left to young families not those getting ready to retire but we were ready. We knew that their was going to be a lot of work involved but we never imagined just how much. Collie pups can be a handful and we knew that going in. They are smart and very expressive but they are also a herding breed. Herding is a natural instinct for them and it is very hard to curb that behavior. They nip almost constantly as pups, legs, ankles, hands, just about anything they can grab, and it hurts, BAD! Their baby teeth are hooked and razor sharp.

Art and I had been talking about Collie's since we started dating. Growing up his family had two Collies, Colleen and then Jamie. They say that once you are a Collie owner you never turn back so more than 30 years later we decided to finally jump in and get one, something we probably should have done sooner.

For at least 6 months we spoke to a breeder in Pennsylvania waiting patiently for her to breed and finally have puppies available. We were glad to wait that long because it gave a us a chance to get to know the breeder pretty well. She had a really good breeding program and we were happy with our choice. Now we would wait. We were aware that she had a waiting list but we were finally happy last summer to find out that one of her females was expecting. When the first litter delivered in August 2019 we were over the moon but she had only had 3 pups, 2 female and 1 male. The breeder was keeping the male so we only had one of two chances of getting a pup or we would have to wait until the next litter, maybe another year or so. We got lucky, we were nearing holiday time and one person had backed out and decided to wait until spring for their new pup. We were next in line and so happy. It was like we were going to bring our own baby home from the hospital, or like we had won the lottery. We hoped our old girl Sophie (Scottish Terrier) and our Kitty Jakie (our beloved rescue) would be happy with their new sister. It was the best Thanksgiving and Christmas gift ever!

November 9th, 2019 we drove to Pennsylvania to pick her up. The quaint little town of Danville is so pretty. I hope to go back to visit it some more over the summer and for Trixie to see her Mom and Brother again.  It was a beautiful drive. We arrived on the farm in early afternoon. The children came to the car to greet us along with there Collies. They were so beautiful. They had Collies of every color, Sable, Blue Merle and Tri-Colored. The farm was gorgeous and they have a working dairy farm as well. What a great place for Collies to run free, it was amazing!

The ride home from Pennsylvania. I was such a good girl!

Trixie has been a handful and certainly training has not been for the faint of heart. She is smart, maybe too much so, and she is stubborn. We hit a real rough patch in her training for the first 3 months and we were scared that she was not taking to her training very well, but that is not the way it was at all. She was just finding herself. She wants what she wants, She can tell time, I swear. She yips to remind you it's dinner time and yips when she wants a walk. She rings the bell to go outside and does not enjoy being alone. She does not have separation anxiety she just likes human company and likes to be included in all activities. She moans when she is tired or when you wake her from sleeping. I understand her. She has one of those special personalities, just like Lassie. I understand now why Collie owners say that once you have a Collie you will want no other dog, I get it. They are special for sure!

I was biting Dad's feet while he did the dishes.

She has brought such happiness into our lives, so much so that we are thinking of doing it all over again next year and adding one more Collie to our herd. We shall see. I can not imagine our lives without her, she is a true companion. ....stay tuned!

Looking super cute today at 7 months old.

As always Thank you- Be Safe!-Until Tomorrow.

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. ..."
